Cyclopentane used for polyurethane blowing agent

Cyclopentane is a cycloalkane with the molecular formula C5H10. The CAS NO. is 287-92-3. It is a colorless transparent liquid, insoluble in water, and soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, acetone, etc. As an important organic chemical raw material, cyclopentane is used to replace chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)，which have a damaging effect on the atmospheric ozone layer. It is used as a new blowing agent for the production of refrigerants and rigid polyurethane foams. It has been widely used in the production of fluorine-free refrigerators, freezers, cold storage, pipeline insulation, and other fields. As the deadline for banning ODS stipulated in Montreal and other conventions are approaching, CFCs and HCFCs products will soon be banned, and cyclopentane will surely become the protagonist in the field of polyurethane foaming agents.

Storage, transportation and packaging

Regarding the transportation of cyclopentane, we recommend using ISO Tank. The weight of cyclopentane filled in each ISO Tank is about 17 tons. If it is packed and transported in steel drums, the weight of cyclopentane of each drum is 150Kg/drum.

For cyclopentane tank storage, it is recommended to use an underground tank. If it is an above ground tank, a water spray system should be installed to cool it down and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.

If cyclopentane is packed in buckets, it shall be stored in a cool and ventilated flammable liquid warehouse, and the warehouse temperature shall be controlled below 26 ℃. During transportation, the packaging containers shall not collide violently with each other, and shall be loaded and unloaded with care. Packaging damage and leakage shall be strictly prevented, and static electricity and ignition sources shall be prevented. It is strictly prohibited to store and load together with strong oxidants. Avoid high temperature and sunshine during transportation in summer, and take cooling measures when necessary.

Main application

Cyclopentane is used as a foaming agent to replace Freon for thermal insulation materials of refrigerators and freezers and other rigid PU foam; It is used as a solvent for solution polymerization of polyisoprene rubber and cellulose ether and as a reference material for chromatographic analysis. Because it does not contain chlorine and fluorine, it is also used as a refrigerant to replace the one containing chlorine and fluorine in recent years.

Cyclopentane, as a new foaming agent for rigid polyurethane foam, is used to replace chlorofluorocarbons (CFCS) that are destructive to the ozone layer of the atmosphere. It has been widely used in the production of fluoride free refrigerators, freezers, refrigerators, pipeline insulation and other fields.
